I'm In The Latest 'Superman' Trailer

And no, I don't mean with a blurb (no critics have seen it yet anyway).

I'm In The Latest 'Superman' Trailer

I’ve been meaning to share this for a few weeks, but I’ve also been hesitant to spread the word. I did background work on James Gunn’s Superman, which comes out July 11, 2025. While I’m sworn to secrecy on everything I know and saw during filming, I can share this much because I actually appear in the latest trailer for the movie. Not that you would realize it’s me without my telling you. But in the wide shot of the Daily Planet newsroom, I’m in the top left corner, looking up at a television screen. I’m doing the same weird thing with my arm that I did in MacGyver a few years ago. Funny enough, the Superman shot I’m in happens in the trailer immediately after on-screen titles tell viewers to “look up.”

I’m especially excited about seeing myself in Superman because this was only the second movie I’d ever done background for, after a number of TV gigs. It’s also the biggest, mainstream, geek-oriented project. For years, I turned down Marvel TV shows, including She-Hulk, for which I was called to be a bailiff. At the time, I was working for popular movie sites such as Fandango, Film School Rejects, and Screen Rant. I was worried that someone would find out I was a film critic or entertainment journalist and accuse me of spying. After all, I had previously been on Marvel and DC movie sets as a reporter for Fandango. In fact, Superman was the second time I got to watch Gunn at work after covering a set visit for The Suicide Squad.

Now, I’m still a critic, but I only write about documentaries (other than my occasional thoughts on this offshoot substack). My primary employment is with a film and TV awards organization, but there’s no threat there, either. My work as a background actor is completely on the side, with total integrity, and a fun hobby. I just love being on a set and watching how movies and shows are made. Now I get paid to do it as part of the action rather than reporting on that action. I do want to share some experiences here, as well, but nothing that would be negative about the casting agencies or the productions themselves. This would be more of a journal of my personal enjoyment of this very below-the-line part of filmmaking.

Let me know if you’d be interested in reading about my time as a background actor on Superman and other productions in Georgia. I will likely keep these behind a paywall. Otherwise, go see Superman when it comes out and look for more of me. For now, check out the sneak peek trailer below and spot me in that newsroom shot.
